KIPP to College

Overview

When a student enters KIPP, whether in the fifth grade or later, the student, the parents, and the teachers make a promise to successfully "climb the mountain to college." To achieve this goal, we continue to support students who complete their eighth grade year at KIPP through high school and on their journey to college.

Our Mission

The mission of KIPP to College is to empower each KIPP alumnus to continue to use the scholarly habits, knowledge, and qualities of character learned at KIPP in their current school and in life to further their communities. As students complete their middle school career, the student, the parents and administrators, renew their “Commitment to College.”

Rationale

The initial reason for the creation of the KIPP to College alumni program was to ensure that all KIPP alumni are able to overcome any obstacles they face and pursue successful futures. We will not let our students fall into the local statistical abyss in which less than 25% of their peers 'have plans' to go to college. The KIPP to College Program offers alumni a learning plan for success and supports them through various initiatives. Components of the program include:

  • Support and advising for the student and their family;
  • Academic support services and programs;
  • Access to SAT/ACT preparation programs;
  • College and financial aid counseling;
  • Extracurricular activities; and
  • Summer internships, job placement, and other leadership and enrichment opportunities.
